Castle and Priory Neighbourhood Learning Centre - Deaf Awareness Session

Who may need deaf awareness?

Everyone! At some time in our life we may come into contact with a deaf or hearing impaired person. It’s important to understand the issues faced and ensure communication is effective to improve access to services etc.

Deaf awareness is being able to:

  • Recognise the diversity of deafness: needs and perspectives vary.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and modify them to meet the individual’s needs.
  • Recognise the barriers faced and assist in overcoming these. Everyone is entitled to equal access/opportunity.
  • Identify the support and equipment available to you and deaf people.
