This website is managed by Senses Web Solutions on behalf of Dudley Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
• change colours, contrast levels and fonts
• zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet’s My Computer My Way has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Compliance status
The website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
• WCAG 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus: Dismissible, Hoverable, Persistent (Manual)
o All pages, when the mouse hovers over links along the top of the webpage, there is no way to dismiss the dropdown options
o Content that appears when an element gets keyboard focus or on mouse pointer hover can confuse users as they may not have intended to trigger an action or may not notice that new content has appeared. This functionality may not show on mobile devices.
The above will be resolved by 19th April 2024.
• WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: ARIA roles used must conform to valid values (Axe)
o All pages.
o Incorrect use of ARIA attributes can cause conflicts with semantic HTML elements which may cause errors in assistive technology and make accessibility worse for a user. ARIA defines which attributes are allowed and where.
The above will be resolved by 19th April 2024.
• WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: Elements must only use permitted ARIA attributes (Axe)
o Home page
o Incorrect use of ARIA attributes can cause conflicts with semantic HTML elements which may cause errors in assistive technology and make accessibility worse for a user. ARIA defines which attributes are allowed and where.
The above will be resolved by 19th April 2024.
• WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow
o All pages, at 400% zoom and on a small screen (320 x 256 pixels) content does not reflow.
o Reflow or ‘responsive web design’ helps users with low vision who may need to enlarge text on a webpage and read it in a single column without scrolling in more than one direction. It also helps users who are viewing the page on a mobile device.
o If a page does not support reflow it can appear smaller and more difficult to use or content may be cut off.
The above will be resolved by 30th April 2024
• WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard
o The accessibility icon on the right-hand side of the webpage cannot be accessed using the keyboard
o As an alternative, there is an accessibility text button at the top of the webpage that is accessible using the keyboard
